I drove about 55 miles to the town of Coal Creek Colorado which was founded in the mid 1800's. A friend lives there and his mom owns the defunct store. I got permission to hunt around the store and a foundation on a vacant lot one street behind the store. Spent about 2 and a half hours at the two properties and only found 3 memorial cents at the store. at the foundation i found a water spigot, a part of a gas valve, a 30-30 case, a square nail, and the brass head of a twelve gauge case. Then I went to the old school house which is now the town hall. I only hunted one side yard for half an hour but only found can slaw. I was sure I would find some kind of old coin but i was disappointed again. When i got back to Colorado Springs i stopped at my granddaughters high school and detected for about 30 minutes. I found a watch, 2 dimes, 2 pennies and a Namco game token. So it was kind of a disappointing day but at least i didn't get skunked. :munky2: :munky2: :munky2:

It sure is rough sometimes when you drive that far just knowing you will find some good stuff and come up empty handed. I have done that quite a bit. Sometimes it goes the other way and we get surprised by a place that doesn't look that good and that will keep us going. I wish you the best

All most the same with me. Took me a long time to get permission to detect a house that was built in 1893. The only thing I found was a bunch of nails, and dog tag that belong to the owners dog. The dog was still living, and a pain.
Good luck with a better place, and don't give up it will get better.

Not a bad day, just not all that great...
Better luck next time, & Happy hunting~

Don't feel bad, I recently got permission to hunt an area I've been eyeing since last year. All of the hand drawn civil war maps showed troops everywhere around this spot (I mean everywhere) I've went there several times and have only found a couple of bullets and a flat button. I know what your thinking thats "pretty good". Not really since the biggest calvary battle fought in the civil war was pretty much next door...... Oh well, at least i didn't get skunked. When ever this happens to me I get discouraged, I think of all of the stuff I should be doing and then I'll pass a spot the gets me all pumped up again with hopes of hitting the best spot ever.
This sort of day is what the hobby is all about, if you found a huge treasure every day it might take the fun out of it...............NOT ;D
