Impossible. Minelabs never have problems.

I know how you could figure out if it was. :)

Most times I've had or heard of similar problems, a battery replacement was the cure. Always one of the first things to try, anyway, and be sure the replacement batteries are good. Once it turned out the replacement battery was no better than the first and the problem continued.

Im gonna Toss my stock one back on and try it.

Im gonna buy some good batteries, I've been running cheap freebie rayovack (sp) ones in it.

I had a bad coil that would cause the detector to stay in overload as soon as it was turned on. A quick swap will definitely let you know for sure. I personally never had problems with any batteries, if they have a charge they work.

In response to Rob, above. You're right up to a point. It's the below adequate, dwindling to nothing charge that causes the problem and sometimes one low cell in a group of AAs can cause problems.

Did you check the connections to make they were not loose? A loose coil connection can create havoc on the system.

Ok took the safari out last night, when I turned it on it would randomly just shut off. It would also lose all threshold and false like crazy? I tried it in auto sens and turned down to 7 and it was still going nuts.

Yea everything seemed tight... I'm gonna pull the whole thing apart, gonna put the new good brand batteries in it and put the factory coil on it and see what happens.

Do one at a time so you know which one is the problem.
