I ended getting it just for the cool factor and it does work but what do you mean chopped? Are you refering to it being shortening on the shaft? It has the arm rest the pic doesn't show it

I didn't recall Treasure Ray making a long-rod water unit, so I assumed your may have been modded. But now I see this:

so they did make such a model.

Hey Carl do you know how deep this will detect up to?, I haven't took it out to the beach yet due to weather but air test has it about 5" which doesn't mean much but if you have some insight on this unit please let me know and again thanks for the info

5-6" is probably all it's capable of. I doubt you will be able to use it in salt water.
