I have a ring that has PLD etched inside (not stamped) and I didnt even know they made rings out of Palladium untill I looked it up online. When I acid tested it because people told me it might be white gold (weighed a lot) it got good result for 18K gold. I was ecstatic, but I soon read online that to test palladium you use 18k and 22 K acid and if it turns yellow green its palladium, if it doesnt , its not. Mine is not comeing out yellow been. So, im not sure if ive got a Heavy Palladium ring or a Heavy 18K white gold ring. Besides taking it to a jeweler, anybody have any advice or experience with Palladium?

Thanks

It has been a long time, but I used to scrap electronics. Stannous Chloride (sp?) was used to test gold, Pt and Pd.

Put some HCl acid in a bottle and dissolve pure tin in it (fishing weights, solder, etc).

If it turns purple, there is gold.
I dont remember Pt and Pd... i think one is orange/brown and one is green and then orange brown? I am sure you could google results for the test.

**Also an excellent test for those with gold test solutions. Some metals will stand up tto the 10k but not 14k tests and not be gold, so this can confirm with out a doubt gold presence.**

Works best if the test rub is already dissolved in a solution. For example, I had a find that was marked 14k but looked fake. I used 18k solution to dissolve the streak and the stannous chloride was added to the drop on the test plate. There was no purple, which confirmed my thought that it was fake.

Hope that made sense! haha
