Hi Again Everyone,

I have what looks like a brass bell that I am hoping someone can help me on figuring out how old it is. There are a total of five pics. There is a close-up of what I thought at first was a number 3 but now I am not sure as it is in line with some marks on the side of the bell (as seen in the last pic). Is there any way to figure the maker of this bell too? Thanks in advance for your time.

Doug

Re: Does anyone know how old this bell is?

Possibly 1840's, although your's looks newer or perhaps it is acid dipped. Here's a picture I took a few days ago of a similar group of sleigh bells which includes your style and which date from the first half of the 19th century.
Here's a good site for identifying most sleigh bells, although your style is weakly represented here. Your style is much harder to find than the round petal bells. http://www.classicbells.com/info/DatingBells.htm#earlyBells

Hey Spartacus,

I really like it. Every time I look at it now though, I have a certain Christmas song go through my head! :icon_santa:
