✅ SOLVED Does this 1868 3 cent nickel have a lamination?

So recently I picked up this latest coin through eBay for 15$. The seller claimed the coin has a "lamination" on the back from the 2nd "I" to the bottom of the coin. If indeed this coin does have a Lamination on it, how much is it really worth? I am very interested on what your thoughts on the matter are. (Bear in mind the specs that appear on the coin are actually on the plastic case, and not the coin.)

Nice coin, I really hope to dig one up some day. Can you tell if that line is just discoloration or if there is a ridge from a layer having peeled away?

So I used an eye magnifying glass and it honesty looks like it has a ridge! There's definitely some sort of small "crack" there.

I think he is saying that he believes it to be natural discoloration. I agree. There may be a slight lamination or unevenness of the surface. No big deal. Does not make it more or less valuable. I think I see die cracks at the low and to the right of the third I This also does not make or break the coin. It is a nice nickel, I like it, but you are not running to the bank!

buying unslabbed coins from pictures on eBay is a bad Idea! I can change a camera angle lens 30 degrees and make the coin look completely different. I only buy PCGS and NGC Slabbed coins on eBay or online. Everything else is a crap shoot.

It depends on how much volume you do. If you are a onesy twosey guy definitely makes it hard to make the money work. If you are a volume coin house it is very cheap in volume and that is how most of the common coins are slabbed. In case anyone was wondering how they can slab a 2017 walker round and sell it very near spot.

A quick update to my other post. On Coins Mag. for U.S. Coin prices, I used a Sept. 2015 issue, only because it shows the "number" of each coin minted. they no longer do that for some reason. Otherwise, for newer guys with a question about any given coin, on the inter-net, type in the date and type of coin, and you will find more infro. then you might even want. The mag. is a handy little thing to have in your rig for a quick reference guide for that special "moment" that something really good pops up while detecting.

There are definitely error collectors. Laminations are fairly common. A lamination my sell your coin quicker if that makes sense?
