Dog Tag Or Transportation Related Tag

One of my buddies got him a new Whites Coinmaster for his 1st machine, and i took him out for a little lesson. We went to a lot i found an 1879-O Morgan dollar at last year and came up with this interesting tag. It's either a dog license or transportation related. If i can figure out what "CTP" stands for i should be able to solve the mystery

I did a little bit of searching on the web and I believe you have a City of Cape Girardeau, MO Chaffeur Badge from 1909. Looking at similar tags from different years, thats what it looks like you found. What do you think?

This is a DOG TAG ~ CTP stands for CITY TAX PAID

ALSO, this is now the OLDEST KNOWN dog tag for that town! . . . . . I just looked in Bill Bones' book US DOG LICENSE TAGS, and the book lists 1910 as the oldest known tag for Cape Girardeau Mossouri . . . . but yours is dated 1909! VERY COOL FIND!!!!

Agree. Here's a blurb from a city by-laws book (NOT your city) circa 1887:

Be it therefore enacted by the Corporation of this City of Hamilton:

1. That every owner of a Dog or Bitch in the City of Hamilton shall, on or before the first day of July in each year, cause the same to be registered, numbered, described and licensed for one year from that date in the office of City Treasurer, and shall also cause the same to wear around his or her neck, a collar bearing the name of the owner, to which collar shall be attached a metallic plate having raised or cast thereon the letters C. T. P. (City Tax Paid) the figures indicating the year for which the said tax has been paid,

holy crap-i found the same identical tag as yours John-cept mine has the number 151 and the same date 1909!-plus mine is missing a small part of the hole like yours. what a great find and im glad to learn what the ctp stood for.
