Just a quick question, has anyone had problems detecting in Dominican Repbulic, I saw one post that says leave it home,is this correct? Leave tomorrow do not know if to pack it or not. Just wondered. Hardrock
If you are staying in a resort area you should not have a problem. I was down there two weeks ago with my Minelab Excal 1000 and nobody bothered me. I only took it out twice for two short hunts but the first target each time were large silver rings. The nice thing about the resorts are that the beach goers get served their drinks in plastic glasses so there are very few pulltops and bottle caps. I would not go out of the resorts with a detector.
HI all : Well the last two posts show what I needed to know and I am staying in Iberostar resort with access to both properties,so I guess I am going to take the Minelab,if I do anything with it much I will post results and give a description on how it went. Ty all for the inputs, 80 there today and 10 with 30 mph winds here snowing but clearing now, leave tonight from local spot by charter bus to Chicago O'Hare fly out 6 am. should be on beach by noon. This weather is not hard to leave. Hardrock
Good luck and have a nice trip. Let us know how you do even if not much is found. I'm sure you will have a good chance to find something because most people at the resorts aren't there to metal detect. Those that drink on the beach have a higher chance of losing items
Just a quick question, has anyone had problems detecting in Dominican Republic, I saw one post that says leave it home,is this correct? Leave tomorrow do not know if to pack it or not. Just wondered. Hardrock
Hi All:
Just returned from trip to Domincan Republic, great time good weather etc. Warm and balmy only one morning of light drizzle and rain. Got out and work the beaches around the Iberostar hotels,3 large complexes in a row and had a great time. Found lots of coins from all over the world. Euros,pesos,U.S. ,Canadian,German, etc. Found one nice silver ring and several earrings all silver. One small gold marker off a larger watch or something. The people were great and the only other detector was a diver from Domnican Republic that worked for the dive shop and he was using a Minelab excalibur. They had just recieved it and were trying it out. No hassles or problems in or out of the country. I will post pics when we get them on the computer.
The last day of the trip I spent most of the morning and several hours after the sun got lower detecting. I had a gal come up and tell me she lost a cross, I asked where and she said "somewhere" on the beach. Well I told her if found give me a room number and I would return it. After that two more came up and both wanted jewlery found but had no specific idea as to where they lost it on the beach. I asked if they had been swimming and all had so my guess is the ocean ate some more until someone finds them. One ring is a full carat diamond with .25 carat side mounts. Sad to say but take the jewels off if ya do not want them lost.
Late in the day a gal walked up and stuck he leg out and said run this. I did and it sounded off from knee to ankle and she was laughing about it,she had to have her leg broke and plated when she was younger due to a malformed femur to straighten out the leg to be normal. Three plates and countless screws and such. She carries a card with her to get through the airport detectors. I hollered for Jill to come over and told her I found this blond on the beach and asked if I could keep her, she got this look like I will kill but the gal was laughing so hard Jill could not help but laugh back and we all got a real good laugh when her hubby told Jill not to worry he would keep his wife. I will add pics later this week take care all. Hardrock
Do you recall the name of the diver? I know John Chatterton owns a dive shop down in DR. From the few emails I've exchange with John he seems like a super nice guy.
