ok i have a strange horseshoe that has metal bars crisscrossed
any ideas as to what it would be used for and what animal

I'd say they might have been some special shoes for tying to snow shoes. I once saw a video from long ago of mules on snow shoe. Was really fascinating. I don't remember it showing a close-up view of how they were attached, but seems these could have had wood slats run through the bars and then laced/strapped to the snow shoes.

I had one very similar that I was told as for a club footed mule.

It is a corrective shoe to keep the stifle joint from locking up.

AWESOME Mud Hut!! :hello2: Glad you found it on such an interesting page, too! I had no idea that horses needed such corrective shoes sometimes.
