Door or cabinet handle?

Not sure is this is some sort of handle, any ideas? This came from a site that has produced buttons and silver from 1780's-1820's.

Might be an equine rosette also. With the length of that post, it would probably have been on a saddle.

If the stub is about 3/4 of an in. than I'd say drawer hardware? HH
