Quite normal for the police to do nothing. Even with an investigation and arrest, many District Attorneys will refuse to prosecute, citing a multitude of reasons.

That's why I have a small sign in my door window warning people they are under observation, even though someone dumb enough to pull a stunt like that probably wouldn't see it or ignore it anyways.
