Got a selection of Chinese coins with square holes in the middle all worn paper thin from stretch of river I've dredged..anyone else getting these?
Old timer years ago told me that the Chinese would "give" back something to the river if they got a good find. Sounds like that would make some kinda sense back in the old days...

Every kind of coin from every country(except russia) I have found in my box. Every modern coins carefully stashed in the side crack of crevices. The practice continues. Usually the denomination of the coin is in direct relation to the find. Always remember that a chinamen in the gold rush was paid a cup a rice and a dime for a full 12-16 hour day. Losing a lousy dime was HUGE in the old days!!Tons a au 2 u 2-John

Here are some coins I dredged last year in an old swimming hole.I have never heard that about the chinese giving back.A great amount of those Chinese coins are found in the gold feilds though,I love finding them!!

used to have a basket shaped like a trough the went on my old dredge. Used to "dredge under the diving platforms in the swimming areas of the bays in Ca. Of course gas was only 75 cents a gallon & the ecology nuts were still considered fringe.
