Found this at a Texas fort site. This particular fort was in use from 1867-1878. I wasn't sure what it was when it came out of the ground but I knew it was fort related because we hadn't found any modern trash at this place. I showed it to a guy I was hunting with who says, without even taking a second look, "oh that's a drumstick holder". I thought to my self "bull honkey". I should have known better than to second guess his ID skills, he was practically a walking relic encyclopedia. I came home and thumbed through my CW uniform books. It didn't take long to find a picture of a complete belt plate with two of these mounted to it. These tubes are even tapered to keep the drumsticks from sliding all the way through.

I thought it was a fitting find for me since the last photo in the post shows my view from my "extra money" job.
