The decoy and gold were at two sepates garage sales. I then went metal detecting, and it was a complete fiasco. Can someone please tell me why my detector was beeping at everything? I bought a Garrett AT Pro used but in excellent condition. I've used it at a park a few times to practice, but I'm a complete, and I really mean, complete novice. Thanks as always for your feedback and suggestions, opinions. 🫶

Well that's what detectors do beep. Now if beeps on a tree-then you have a strange machine.
But read your manual, watch a few videos on the settings.
Ask on the Garrett AT Pro forum for help with the settings.
Try a quieter area where there's less targets, then you can dig a few targets, instead of listening to hundreds of sounds.
Boring yes, but also you'll learn the machine easier.
I bought a Minelab SE in 2009 and went to the beach, thought I'd try the grass strips between the parking lots.
Nope it was insane listening to hundreds of beeps in such a small area.
Went out onto the sand, it was great.

Your detector is beeping because of all the metal and mineralization in the ground. The question is too broad to cover in a forum post. But the AT Pro is a great detector and will serve you well. Here is a series of videos showing you how to use it:

Try this exercise to learn what point targets look and sound like:
  1. Using the Mode button, set your detector to "Standard Zero." This means it will find everything, in standard mode which is a bit less confusing.
  2. Find a quiet section in your own yard or a place you can return to easily. 2 feet by 2 feet is sufficient. This will be your test zone.
  3. Throw a penny in the middle of that test zone. Detect it. See what your display says.
  4. Repeat with a nickel, dime, quarter, and some of that gold from the garage sale.
  5. Now bury them all two inches down and repeat. Separate them by at least 8 inches.
Congratulations, you know what targets sound like. Watch the video series to learn a bunch more skills that are all important.

Thank you sincerely for your time, recommendations, and videos. I truly appreciate it. I'll watch the vids and practice. I know that there are treasures out there waiting for me. All the best!

Thank you very, very much! I appreciate your time, feedback and tips. I'll practice them. I know I have to master my machine, to make it more fun and enjoyable.
