It would appear that this is a proof coin that got into circulation...a not uncommon occurrence with some coins it would seem, from what I found when I roll hunted Kennedy half dollars. Anyway, from what I just read, more proof coins with this error were produced in 1979 than without the error, so there may not be any added value at all. There is one listed on ebay right now, with an opening price of $4.38 including shipping. With a day to go, no bids.

It's interesting, though. This is the second error coin I've noticed in my finds lately. The other was a lamination error wheatie. I don't check Memorial pennies, does anyone else? I have about 40 rolls of Memorials.

no, just rinsed it off good. Might be a little nose grease on there to show up in the photo better.
