I dug this in Marietta GA I wonder how old it is
 
Yup...the bottom was made of steel that has completely rusted away.....Dietzwere popular makers of these and were in common use from the late 1800s into the 20s.....30s. Google skater lamp and you can see other examples, yours had a small finger loop handle that was soldered on but now gone.
