Metal Detecting
While vacationing this past summer at our family cabin in Maine, I detected our property and my Fisher F5 came up with a strong signal. I dug 8" down and thought I had a hunk of iron, but to my surprise it turned up to be a full clip of rifle bullets (I think). I do not know much about guns and bullets, but a relative of mine (he's 84) said they looked military. Check out my photo (ignore trash-though peg is cool) and would enjoy comments. I do not want to do electrolysis. It might ruin the look of aging and how it was found.

It's a magazine full of hunting shells for in a hunting rifle.

Military would have most likely been on a stripper clip (single stacked so you could push them into the built in magazine of the rifle.

thanks. That is what I thought, but wasn't sure. It is very heavy.Looks like it was down there a long time. No one in my family past or present was a hunter.

I definitely wouldn't do electrolysis on old loaded bullets!

I hope you realize that with the massive amount of rust on the magazine, it is going to begin disintegrating very soon now that it's in the air.

Very cool! Make sure you preserve it somehow...

Do you think keeping it oiled would help?

I was trying to find a way to date it. It looks exactly like the 760

Yes, keeping it oiled will definitely help. Electrolysis is a good way to go, but I would remove the bullets first if at all possible. Not because of safety but rather I don't know what the powder will do if mixed with your electrolyte. Might become corrosive? Not sure...
