This is amazing. Thanks so much!Yes, indeedy. The Shawnee Pottery Company operated from Zanesville, Ohio between 1937-1961 and pieces like this are post-war. Usually cold-painted after glazing/firing, the small figural planters typically have oriental or South American people (often children) in stereotype costumes. They were designed to hold a small slow-growing plant such as a cactus or succulent and the small size leads to them often being mistaken for (or subsequently used as) toothpick holders.
