i dug this odd glass piece up and was wondering what it was. it is molded glass with a decorative pattern. the color of the glass is a dark ruby red with slight swirls in it. i thought it might have been an insulator but the shape doesn't look right and it seems too ornate for that. the lower plain portion has a rough or ground surface similar to things like bottle stoppers. perhaps it is a lid for something like an apothecary jar?
the inside has some scratches and abrasions as if it was hung or placed on something.
just curious if anybody has seen this form before or knows its age or function.

My guess... lid.

Does not look like an insulator to me. That would be one substantial peg it would fit over.
