Here is a button from the Watermelon Patch that has been soaking in olive oil for more than a month. This one was SUPER crusty but the soak revealed a small bit of detail. I had to put it through electralosys for a few hours but managed to get the crust off. It's an eagle button with no tail feathers, a small head, and no stars. The back says Scoville ...??? Can't read the rest.
I guess I need to buy a few button books now that I am in the low country and finding buttons...

Thanks for any info!!

Can't find the exact button. Looks like late 1820s-40s. Nice button

Thanks Trapper and Thanks collector. That's about the time period I was thinking but also could not find a match.

I have no help on the id but congrats absolutely awesome find!

Looks like pre Civil War to me.
