Dug my first button today! Don't really know anything about it though. I still enjoyed finding it, any information would be greatly appreciated! I didn't clean it, not sure the right way about that either. The back markings say

Nice button. Love digging any military buttons! I think yours is WWI but not positive. I'm sure some of the experts on here will tell you for sure. Congrats!

Thanks! It's my first. Hopefully somebody knows for sure but to be honest I'll love just as much either way! It was pretty exciting to see that shank sticking up out of the dirt!

Any recommendations on cleaning it! Just a soft toothbrush? Will water hurt it in any way?

It looks to be a WW 1 Army Coat button. I would just clean it lightly with water & a toothbrush, then soak it in olive oil for a week or so. That will give it a great sheen. Or you can just water it off with the toothbrush & leave it alone. It is all a personal choice. I prefer to olive oil military buttons such as yours, & I have many of them. I have never been sorry with the end result.

Hi; Yes it is a WW1 Army Infantrymans coat button. Value $2. Cleaning it is easy. Just use the toothbrush method. Scrub it every few days until you get the results you want ok. Don't worry abot any possible damage as those type buttons are fairly strong ok. Nice Find. PEACE:RONB
