Effects of heat on detector from car/truck

Has anyone had any experience with heat damage from a hot car or truck on your detector? I have my detector with me a lot, it's in my truck sitting in the hot sun with temps in the upper ninety degree temps often. I'm most concerned about the batteries but haven't noticed a degradation as yet.

They say it can damage your machine but I have never had it happen and I'm like you, I leave a machine in my car.

I have thought about that as well, 140+ degree F. inside a trunk is probably not great on them. I mainly worry about the batteries exploding or something. Maybe it won’t hurt it to be in there all the time.

Sounds like I'm not the only one that keeps his/her detector in the heat. Not that I'm trying to abuse it but I'm always looking for an opportunity. It's been on many road trips too, seldom used on non-MD trips but it's available. So far all is good.

The heat is not good on LED screens and can lead to the LED screen leaking causing digital lines in the screen.

While heat is the enemy of any electronics, especially direct, extreme heat, your car stereo and onboard electronics fare well through all of it. if in direct sun, i would recommend coving it with a towel.

that being said, i never leave mine in the truck for fear of damaging it over time

I used to carry a cheaper detector in my back seat or in the trunk of my car (several different detectors over the years). Never had one fail from the heat but they were analog detectors. I haven't carried any of the digital detectors like that...so I don't know how they would do in that situation.

Thanks to all for the great comments. I always keep it bagged and out of the direct sunlight. I've decided to make an effort to not abuse it with the heat if possible. With that said I'll probably still take it with me if I think there's any chance I'll get an opportunity to detect!

I had that motorcycle with the big LCD screen speedo instead of a normal round one. It sat in the sun quite a bit. I never covered it. I thought it was pretty tough considering the exposure over time.
Mine was a little weak, but okay at nighttime. I've seen them readout very nicely even after 40 years. The Sun's effects would only cause a problem to a detector as far as I know would be melted or warped plastic. We've all seen what the Sun can do.
