Electrolosis and the dim witted.

I have read many, many articles on here about building an electrolosis thingy with a cell phone charger. I have one going now as I write. The questions I have is are both the piece I am doing and the throw away supposed to be bubbling? Is the piece I am doing supposed to bubble all the way down it or just where the wire attatches, which it is doing? I think something is wrong but that is what happens when I start thinking. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is anything coming off? Try swapping them over

Attach one wire to a stainless steal spoon and the other wire to the coin. Only the coin is supposed to be bubbling. If the spoon is bubbling reverse the wires.

What Marchas45 says. I tried it a few times now and only the item you want to clean plus the electrode contact should bubble/fizz. My advice, and its only MY advice, is, use a stainless steel bolt, they last longer. Don't forget to make the solution slightly brine, with a few drips of lemon juice, it works for me. Going to do an old axe head in the next few days or so, let you see the results

Thanks for the information from you all. I have the bayonet doing electrolosis now and there are pieces of rust and crud coming off of it. Now my question is, when I bring it out of the water, how do I clean it completly and preserve it?

Rinse it well with clear water then use Baking Soda to stablize it.

Use a volt ohm meter to figure out polarity of the transformer if the tip is gone. Most of these transformers are marked if the tip or shield is positive which helps. Separate both wires above the plug and bare the wires. Use the ohm meter to figure out which wire goes to the tip or shield which ever is plus.

Rinse your item under running water. Get a dollar store tupperware type container put it in the sink and let it soak under running water for several minutes to get rid of the solution from all the pits & crevices. Next place the item in the oven set on a low temp (100 deg) to drive off the remaining moisture. Seal with your favorite sealer, parafin shellac varnish etc. The important thing is to make sure to get rid of as much moisture as possible before coating with any sealant.
