So I went back to my site where I have found 4 Enfield Minie's already. Unbeknownst to me one had the wood plug still in the cavity and over night it fell out. Since then I have learned that this is something that only the Brits had when they made the Enfield rounds. The Confederates didn't like it and didn't make theirs with the wood in the back. I also read that this is more rare to have the wood intact. Well i found another one today same location. I'm going to post the pics of it and if anyone knows more info on the bullet let me know. Also if anyone know's how to preserve this so the wood doesn't fall out please let me know. Im on the clock to get it sealed in there. Thanks! Happy Hunting!

I've found many with red clay as well.

Very cool, congrats!

I was not aware that some did NOT have the wood (often cork) plug inside. Without rings, the plug was what helped the bullet to expand and grip the rifling. Anyway, when I find one, and the cork falls out, I just put a tiny drop of white glue on it and shove her back in there. Not very archeologically sound, I guess, but better than losing the cork. Good job. Not very common to find the wood still inside.

So according to what I have read the english bullets had wood plugs and confed's had clay plugs for a little while and then realized they didn't need them and went with no plug.

No not true at all. Confederates had the wood plugs. Most of the confederates were supplied and supported from across the pond with guns and ammo. I have only found them in pure Confederate sites here. The South used the poor old enfield to the very end. Many were made by Towers and Company.
I will take Enfields over most any bullet any day. Of course they did cast their own. Everyone did.
