Epic hunt.A big chunk of gold, wheats, 4 silvers and other artifacts

I had a super hunt today. I recovered 12 wheat pennies, 3 silver Rosies, small sterling ring, 2 old lipstick tubes, a valve stem cover for a model T, small pile of clad, 17 grams of 10K gold class ring, and a kids junior sherriffs badge. It was a beautiful day and the finds just kept popping out. I have only found one other class ring and it was for the class of 1918 and worn so bad it could not be identified to be returned but this one is almost perfect. How do I go about locating the owner which would be 65 or 66 years old if still alive. Should I try to contact the school? Any help would be appreciated. It is a Balfour 10K men's ring. I usually start with the School name. Call and give them the initials in the ring, and the graduating year. A lot of times they will contact the person, and have them call you. I have returned a few on my own, because they were from our local High School where my son and daughter both went, so I just used their yearbooks ! That was easy. Congrats on a great batch of finds and good luck on the ring return.

Great hunt. I have returned a number of class rings. You are on the right track contacting the school and the manufaturer. That should get you the name of the owner. Sometimes the school records will give contact info that may or may not still be good. They usually cannot give you that info, but if you give them your contact info they sometimes will try and make contact and give your info to the owner who will then contact you. If that fails try putting a lost and found ad in the school’s local paper (they usually run them for free) or make contact with the alumni association for the school. If you are on Facebook you can search there and a google search sometimes will get you address and phone number.

I would start by determining the name of the person who lost the ring. Many school yearbooks are available online and good place to start. After you get the name, I'd then try an online search, Facebook, Google, etc. I haven't had much luck with the schools I've contacted, but, I have had success with reunion committees, especially if an important reunion is coming up.
