2.27 grams is nominal for clad dimes. 2.31 grams would not be unusual. Experience tells me that up to 10% over or under is not uncommon.

So what you have is a dime that has been beat up a bit.

Hunting penny rolls today and this dime that weighs 2.31 grams popped in!

I agree with galenrog on it. It is post mint damage.

Not an error, it's part of the die design. Do you have a RED BOOK that shows all coins ever produced, show both obverse & reverse.
