Not really sure, considering the age it just might have been damaged through circulation, HH Art...
 

Hi,
It was struck by a minutely mis-aligned die. That means the hammer die, In the case of US coins, the obverse, was slightly misaligned in the coining press when the coin was struck. It was not out of whack (not an official numismatic term :-) ) enough to add any value to the coin.
