Etrac problems... 3 hours and here's what I find

Got to my favorite little park on Sunday.( always early before the thugs get up and only on Sunday's )
For some reason the signals are very hard to pick up, as they have been the last couple of times too.
None of the silver's were solid signals and they were only 4 -5 inches deep
Got about 10 wheaties and all sounded like crap.
The nickel's 6 in all were the only solid signals at 4-6 inches.

In all I spent 3 hours there and I was hurting the last hour.
Got my shear of junk, $2 clad ,10 wheaties 4-1940's nickel's, 1 1935 buffalo ( All cleaned up the Watercolor way )
1 1943P war nickel, My 3rd STEEL PENNY in my last 4 outings, 2 merc's and a wahington (This is the 5th washington from this spot )

I think there is a problem with the machine.
Any suggestion on changing the settings so the signals are solid and clear.
I know Ddub changed it once for me but I reset it back. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:
Thanks for looking.

How the heck you been dp?
well if you dont have many other settings you need to keep in there and do not mind doing a factory reset then...

To Master Reset the detector:
1 Press the Menu button
2 Scroll across to Preferences (using the Right or Left Navigation button)
3 Scroll down to Master Reset (using the Down Navigation button)
4 Press either the Left or Right Navigation Button to enter Master Reset
5 Scroll up to Yes and press either the Left or Right Navigation button to initiate the Master Reset.
A ‘Reset’ message will appear on the screen and a tune will sound. Once the message disappears and the Pattern Screen appears on the LCD the detector has been reset and E-Trac is ready to detect again.

then.. here is what ddub gave me for some settings to try out..
Quoted from ddub:

Fast: On
Deep: Off
Trash Density: High
Ground: Difficult
CO: 2
FE: 24

hope things are well bob!

Go back to AUTO + , and # will be OK , or adjust manual to gr. conditions, no other adjustment necessary !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Manual are OK for deep targets only ( over 10 in. ), and only tones are counting.Only Ideal gr. cond. monitoring corect #

Bob,
I usually don't have problems, but one thing I have found is that when the E trac is having problems on a dime size object, If I switch to a smaller coin (6x8 SEF) I am good. But, that could be because I have been using a 15x12. It's been a long time since I used the pro-coil. But I did find an area, where, I really pounded with the pro-coil a year ago, then the 15x12 in the winter. I would not hear anything. Tried it with the 6x8, and I pulled (and this was a 20foot by 20 foot area) about 20 wheaties, 1 roosie, and one war nickel, which with the other coils I just did not hear (at all) in that soil. Perhaps its mineralization. Maybe turn your sens down or as Mr. Senior suggested go on Auto sens.

We should all have those kind of problems Bob!

Great hunt!

Re: Etrac problems... 3 hours and here's what I find

I agree with Batts! Congrats!

Also concur with D-dub's settings, but I'll switch back and fourth between the quick mask and the default coins program (with silver dollars included). Quick mask will allow for a faster swing.. you just have to learn to ignore more of the false blips.

As for the Auto vs. Manual... I only roll manual. I found the Auto setting will detune when in certain "noisy" ground conditions, and also when using a sunray probe. I've also found manual to be more sensitive than auto even if the auto is set to the same number as manual. Auto is going to give you the "clearest" sound... but at a cost. If the ground is really noisy, and noise cancel in the air or on the ground is not helping, you can turn the manual sensitivity WAY down to like 15 and still get 6" targets no problem.
