I was at a park this morning to play with the kids. Life has slowed me down to the point to where I have not hunted in a week, and seriously hunted in two. I also thought about Treazurehunters eloquent post about his daughter all grown up and getting married and that has my wheels turning.

So knowing there's modern silver over on the other side of this park, I baited the older one by telling her I know there's silver in this park. The littler one just nods his head any time I say the word "coin"

So we went for fifteen minutes found a couple quarters and dimes, and a single Mercury. My boy dug his first Merc with the shovel and pinpointed. He worked for it... ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1448127831.308396.webp

The older one was jealous... But she's dug a lot; mercs, barbers, even a walker half, and two large cents.

Most on here know I usually like to post older stuff but this was special. Enjoy them kids while they're young

Steve,

Good score on the silver but being with the little one is the star of the hunt.

Scrappy, that should be the best 15 minutes you had this week.

What way to get the kids interested. Great finds and awesome pics

He was the star alright. Dug it and found it. He knew what he had when he saw the shine from the hole...
Very cool!

For certain it was!

I'm trying to get them hooked so quality time means detecting time;)
Hook them when they're young, nice post Scrappy.
They loose interest fast. If there's not silver in every other hole my daughter wanders off...lol

Nice day out with the kids, this is the stuff they'll remember!

I wish I had a place like that, with guaranteed silver...

Thx J. It's not quite guaranteed silver there, I just abandoned the site (hidden park) early summer for some colonial sites before I dug all the silver out. There's more so in the season of giving the address for those local is:

15 DeHart Rd. Maplewood, NJ

Lol. Is it frozen up there yet in the Great White North?

It's so true about what they say: They grow up quick.
I've got two kids, 4 and 6 years old. My digging time has tanked but my quality of life has skyrocketed. Enjoy it while you can!

Its been dipping down to the 7 or 8F over night so the ground is getting a little hard. There's no snow yet, which is unreal, and it's supposed to be a balmy 40F tomorrow...I might give it a shot!

Work, love, and play are the great balance wheels of man's being.

I hear that Kray. Those kids are our predecessors - future keepers of history and relics;)

Steve, Thanks again for the compliment on my post. It is true, spend as much time with those little ones as you can. I did with both our kids, & don't regret one second of it. When I referenced my daughter bending down in the field ( at age 29 ) to find things, it brought instant flashbacks to when she detected with me 20 yrs. ago. She would do the same exact thing back then. The only difference this time, is she is more selective in what she picked up, like pottery shards & marbles. Back then it was rocks ! Ron

What's a father to do? My friend you did exactly what good father's do. Quality time no matter the activity.
