Took the cruiser out today. First stop Gull Island. Saturday there was a big party on the island. How big you ask? Here is an overhead picture of the island and what the party looks like twice a year. You can Youtube Jobbie Nooner. However, Most the video's I saw were "R" rated so I chose only to post the picture.

Trash after trash after trash. All left in my boat. Too many boats started showing up and I didn't enjoy having to watch them. I didn't get one single good target. However XRayWolf saved a few coins.

Second stop Metro Beach. Two wheat's were my only old coin finds. I thought I had gold ring 50 for the year but it is a 10KGF. The other one is an 18KHGE. BARF. Almost did that also. Waves were strong and constant. I was being swished back and forth all the time. The sand at Metro is fine and hard packed. All the copper pennies came out nice and orange. Would love to get a silver coin out of there. Would probably not be black but a blue gray like in lake Huron.

Still a good day. I need one more gold ring to hit 50 for the year. It has got to be hiding somewhere close.

Wow now that's a party if you end up moving back to UTAH lake Havasu wouldn't be too much of a drive that place is probably like a 100 jewelary stores dumped into the water., Probably all whole new set of critters to guard the treasures Thanks for sharing scuba I did find a silver ring and a bracelet silver also today Stay safe!!!!!!!!

Dang, we probably should have tried the other side of the island, looks like thats where the main boat line is.

Metro was a bust but ya never know until you try, most likely it was hammered day after Labor day [they supposedly don't allow any detecting between Memorial day and labor day]. Place was swamped with aggressive, invasive seaweed, couldn't get anywhere near the outer swim line, probably some goodies out there for those who don't mind battling seaweed. Then again, probably likely not many swimmers go out there in the 1st place, thats a pretty ratty beach in general but glad we gave it a try.

My haul for the day was a junk earring, cell phone battery and .78 in change - And of course, plenty of bottle caps/pulloffs.

That picture is unreal.

The Jobbie Nooner is an all adult party. No children, and people get drunk naked and wild. As I said the video's are pretty much all "R" rated. The police are out there in force, however mostly to keep the peace and not bother anyone for other petty things. I would estimate over 3000 boats and probably closer to 5000 boats out there. It started sometime in the 1980's and outside the beautiful sandy beaches you have a carpet of weeds. These weeds are totally different than the ones in the Detroit River. They are very hard to detect around and are a lot stronger. Impossible to move them. They are 1 - 3' tall.

However, if you take a detector in those weeds all you will hear is bell tones for cans. Thousands of them. I am positive there are plenty of targets under those cans but it is a very hard process to dig through the weeds and get the cans then keep detecting. The bell tones are absolutely everywhere. In the shallows, can slaw, bottle tops, pull tabs, melted aluminum blobs are everywhere. I must have dug over 50 junk targets. If you have the time and patience, you will find gold and silver. You could also collect 10¢ cans all day long also if you want to fill up a boat.

This is worse than bullet beach. I will probably leave it to younger more patient detectorists. I might hit it again a few times if bored and want a challenge.

I came close to losing lunch I got bounced around so much the other day
i'd head back to "half land" for your 50th
I found one of those line cutters this year - got it on my pouch now to cut long lines on lures and sinkers I find
good luck getting that 5oth:thumbsup:

Not that I'm anti-social, but that place looks like Woodstock on water! I wouldn't be anywhere near that island when that party kicks off! I wonder how many people drown there each year? I like your perseverance - good luck on ring 50!

All those boats that close together - that's insane!

Hmm the water has a bit of a yellow tinge after a good day...

Oh btw...

Gold ring #50 is right under that one boat. :P

Pretty crazy place, and yeah I imagine there would be a few 50 gallon drums of urine dropped in the drink at a drunken gathering like this.

Challenging place to detect for a wader or diver. In addition to the trash and seaweed, sometimes you can be wading up to the waist and the next step might put you over your head, so you gotta watch out for dropoffs. Some areas you can wade out probably 100's of yards but then you have to worry about boats and jet skis buzzing by. 6 or 7 boats pulled in while we are there, 1 coming far too close to Bob and his dive flag, at which point we left. These guys just zing in and beach their boats, I guess they use reverse props to get back out.

Place is actually tough to find if you are going by distant memory or never been there .. We were about half way to Mackinaw before we realized we must have passed it and turned back, whereupon we ran close to some dangerous, unmarked shoals with huge boulders just breaking the surface. No cell signal out there so couldn't pull up google maps or something, but we finally found it. Really got to keep your eyes wide open navigating around there, and SD did a great job of that.

Land just visible to the right is actually Canadian territory or very close to it, and the island blends in with it when approaching.

And that is ONE reason I refuse to go places like that the day after or the night of the party. BELIEVE ME when I tell you I have thought doing that would be like diving in someones toilet!

You and Xraywolf sure made me laugh! Halfway to Mackinaw!! Good one Doug!!

We were following a small freighter when we got lost. Doug, you remember the name of it? It was in the thousand foot class I am sure. If I do remember right it was the American Integrity. 1000' long and 105' wide.

LOL and that is why I posted your name as Dave? Way too funny Doug!!

Well hell, you remember the important things like the names of random freighters and forget your hunting buddies names, so you must not be more than 1/2 senile !

Nice post and nice finds! Congrats and HH

That's one Big party!!
I wouldn't worry too much about finding another gold ring to make 50. You'll hit 50 plus easily for the year.
