one of my favourite local indian artifacts came out Frick's Lock.
I know it's an older piece, and I don't know what museum it is
in right now (I did not find it, I have only seen pictures)
It's part of an effigy carved in stone. I have never seen an artifact
like it from the local area. (I wish I could find a picture of it, but
frankly at the moment I can't even remember which book I saw it in)
But I do remember it was from Fricks Lock.
As teenagers we used to drive around that area in the mid 80s (though more
so on the other side of the reactors...lots of abandoned back there too)
We used to call that area Hobbitland. (what else do you do in the heart of Pennsylvania with your friends on a Saturday night)
I know off one of those old roads (on the north side of the reactor property) is a stone building I was introduced to as "the crypt". I was pretty sure that
it was a springhouse, only recently did I read that it was a crypt for a large manor that sat over the hill on the Schuylkill. Sometime in the 1800s the graves were desecrated and strewn about the exterior. Whatever remains there were ,were re-intered in a different location.
I wonder if you could get permission from PECO to detect at the houses on the opposite perimeter of the property.
I would also suggest the area between Linfield and Parkers Ford:
"Limerick Township has a long history, much of which relates to
the river. Opportunities for historic interpretation include George
Washington’s 1777 crossing of the river between Linfield and
Parker’s Ford, the evolution of the village of Limerick Station, now
called Linfield, and the varied industrial history of the distillery
property."
Also, DEFINATELY pick up Estelle Cremers book, 30,000 acres and
the Annals Of Phoenixville by Pennypacker.
