Detector turns on according to the click I hear in the headphones but I can't hear any thresh tone and passing metal under coil does nothing. Battery should be charged. Its been plugged in. Anyone been through this?

Battery could be dead. Use a multi-meter to check the voltage on the two prongs on the battery. Should register 12-14 volts when charged.

Try having it "re-stuffed", I have done this in the past and it saves money $$$ Just go to a battery store such as "Batteries Plus" for this service.
