My Excalibur's ten inch coil is like new but I just noticed that the bottom of the coil (the piece that runs down the Middle) that the shaft attaches to is opening at the seam. Has anyone else had this problem? My signal is EXCELLENT , I do get sand in the space between the coil and this plastic.
I want to know if I clean this out real well and put epoxy over it would it make my sens. weaker ?
What type of epoxy should I use ?
This is not a coil cover but the top part of the coil itself that the shaft attaches to ( the underside of the coil). I hope I explained this so that it is understood.
Thank you very much for any help you can relay to me.

I had this posted under a different topic that I believe was wrong ,I hope I'm on the right forum now..

Before you start trying to repair it. Give Minelab a call or an Email. See if they can do anything for you? You may be surprised!

Jeff, thanks for the reply but I bit the bullet and repaired it with loctite marine epoxy. Two tubes did the trick and now I don't have to use a coil cover. Lets see how this repair holds up and as far as minelab goes I used them once for a repair and I have to say they were outstanding (free and fast) does it get better then that ?. Thanks again for your reply.

Coiltek, the makers of the WOT coil, use Araldite a 2 part epoxy to repair coils.
I used Araldite 2014 myself to repair my WOT coil. My repair photos were on
Doc's site, but I can not locate them today to give you the link. I filled the gap
after reconnecting the broken wire with the 2014 which is gray, but the 2012
should work also, it is pale yellow.

Good Luck
