Eyballed a good one today,1917 walking half

It was wedged in a 20ft chain in 2 feet of water.I saw sun reflecting something on bottom of creek.Then saw the edge was grooved so took of gloves,set down detector,and went and got it.About keeled over when i saw the eagle!(was hunting with etrac at time,try not to go in very far with it).Would have been a 2fer but chain is very old and beyond salvage.Also anyone who has a garret at gold question,my detector today started going 54/55 a statickey and now that is all it does?Any idea what is wrong.I wasn't even in water at the time.
