The stuff in the black case/box has been found over the past 2 weeks. There's an item above the old hinge, it's shaped kind of like a nail file. It has a measuring scale from 1 to 6 on it, but it's NOT inches. I have no idea what it is. Also, the nice hooped piece of brass above the buckles and below the bell, no clue what that is either.

The stuff on the white paper towel I dug today. Those two items above the large cents, I have no idea what they are either.

I gotta get back out there SOON. I researched, and discovered this old site that is long gone. It's all open field. That's where today's stuff was found. The civil war stuff was from another site on the same farm, and the coins are, well, as y'all know, mostly scattered about the fields.

Wowza! You have yourself a great site to hunt! The nail-file thing I think is a handle for scalpel blades....not sure how far they go back....I use one for some projects, and here is a pic:

The two items on the paper towel above the large cents - is the engraved item on the right made of metal or do you think it is a kind of shell...reminds me of a powder horn I had once that was made out of a coconut.

Y'all are awesome! Thanks for the ID's.

I wonder how old that little scalpel handle is. I shudder to think it was used to remove those bullets......

First item to the right of those suspender clips is a tiny button.

I don't know when that kind of scalpel set up was invented.

After some closer inspection, the scalpel handle has a "3" on the reverse side and is stamped "Argentina".

That is one incredible group of finds- Congrats!!

Thanks! You should see the bolts, railroad spikes, busted horseshoes, rolled up tin, aluminum shards, copper wire and pipe, blacksmith cutoff tools, chisels, and other assorted trash that I have :)
