Fake gold. But.....real!!

I got out with a friend yesterday to hit a few tot lots. Spent about 2 hrs digging

When we got to the last spot I parked my buddy by staging a gold ring for him to dig up. Laughs were had and we continued digging. A few minutes later he says he found a gold chain. Too bad it's rusty lol

The joke was on him though. It is marked 14k. And. The clasp and connector are real gold. So it may not be much. But my buddy finally dug his first gold

Not very as its a fake Italy mark, very common, I'm afraid to say.

On the plus side he is still looking for a better oone.

It's bad enough finding glitzy fake stuff, but that really adds insult to injury!

I know it's rusted but give it a lemon juice soak anyhow, no harm.
I had a bracelet that was badly discolored missing the clasp I thought was junk, just for the heck of it I soaked it in lemon juice over night, it turned out to be the real thing.

Yup, there is a lot of fake gold out there marked and marketed as real gold.
if someone off the street ever tries to sell you gold jewelry at an unbelievable low price, remember the old saying. "If its too good to be true, it probably isn't".
Im only saying this because I had a friend that bought a few supposedly gold necklaces that were marked as gold for like 40 dollars in a grocery store parking lot once. He thought he got a great deal until he took em to a jeweler and had them tested. Lesson learned the hard way.

It is done to "pass off" the "grift"...

If tested ... testie will usually test at that point of chain as to not mark up chain part.

Test is good.

I see it constantly...
Lately there has been a rash of fake silver jewelry... all marked 925...
But nothing more than plated bunk metal...
Just saw a killer fake Tiffany ring... marked to high heaven and back... looked perfect.
Tested bunk.

Fake jewelry is a huge market.
