Another near T-shirt day!
I spent 7 hours gridding the last of Fan's Site & Cru'dad did 4 hours. I wasn't expecting to finish such a large area all today, sorry Land-Mag. We will plan something else tomorrow at the Metal Working Site.:thumbsup:

Some really great finds today;

45 Roman Coins
2 Hob Nails
Broken Fibula
Iron Age (Celtic) Fibula
Celtic Toggle (my first near complete example)8-)
Nero As:icon_thumright: (Rare find for us)
Trajan As:icon_thumright:
VERY RARE-Roman Lead Seal with the letters CCA PVP. These were often used by the Roman Military to seal their orders/letters but I will update later on this one!:headbang:

Same principal, it had a wire cord through it. These get the academics pretty excited, not many of them found in the UK.

Wow what a great day

nice day again:occasion14:

Great finds as usual. It's impressive the quantity and quality of finds that you achieve to produce on almost every hunt.

I probably covered with Cru'dad about 3 acres + today. Low & fast is the way to go, breaking the mould of low & slow. But that's assuming your at the right place at the right time & can grab small coins within seconds of hearing them.:thumbsup:

Fabulous finds CRUSADER! Once again I'm awed!

This activity is a lot like hunting deer. First you have to get a permit to go where they are! My only regret is that you can't see me bowing in respect.

Best wishes!----Phil

Once again awesome finds! :icon_thumleft:

wow!! You amaze us every time :occasion14: Saving history one swing at a time !!

Congrats, when you say "grab small coins within seconds of hearing them" are you using a screwdriver or something else. to retrieve them? ATB
99% of land we do is ploughed, so a screw-driver is no use. The field is currently ploughed & very flat ready to received the Winter Wheat which will be drilled any day soon. So that about picking the right time to do the gridding.
What I mean is, that I hear a beep, dig it quickly, spread it out with my foot, sweep over it again quickly, bent over (never get on your knees & no pin-pointer they slow you down) grab it first grab (if poss, sometimes we have to chase small bits), & put it in the pouch. All of this should take 30 seconds or less.(beep-dig-pouch)

Read this post it will give you a clue how quick you have to be to increase your find rate;

Interesting technique! Maybe that's my problem? I spend too much time being thorough!

Amazing stuff here! I have a question please don't laugh: do you find newer stuff like 17th and 18th century and skip posting it? Seems like you specialize in ancient finds. Thanks as always!

Just read your button post, I realized you do find newer stuff as well. carry on!

Fantastic seal! I've seen them in a museum but never seen one dug. The ones i know of come from excavations in legionary camps or the big cities along the Rhine. Finding an As in this condition is also a rarely find. Congrats again!

I post all my finds, it just happens that we do specialised in Celtic/Roman Sites, so that's what we mostly find.

Yeap, its normally a high ranking officer that uses them. Fingers crossed, I'm investigating. It's now my 2nd one, but that really baffled them because it seemed to be a cavalry unit that didn't exist.:thumbsup:
