Please take a look and see if these photos make any sense of this artifact. Top reads: THE LAMBERT SCHMIDT TELEPHONE MFG CO., WEEHAWKEN, NEW YORK. About 2.5 inches diameter, with 2 holes on the side, maybe for screws? Appears to be threaded, as if it fits into something larger.

My detector read this as a dollar at 5-8 inches. Actually found at 6 inches, and larger than a silver dollar. Also appears to have been metal plated, as part of the plating is peeling off an anodized? base.

I have no clue how this fit in with any telephone operation that I know of.

I found references to the company back to the early 1900's, but it's got me stumped. I was thinking maybe part of an old operators headphone, but it looks heavy for that.
