Ferdinand and Isabella one reale with Star

Came into control of this one reale, but I can't find out anything about the Star on the shield side. Anybody know where it was minted and what the star means?

Signumops, I belive this coin was minted in Seville. There are some similar ones that were struck in Seville specifically for use in Santo Domingo (1500-1505) that I found in one of my books. The difference is that they have a crowned "F" on the reverse (side with the sheaf of arrows on it). Interestingly there is a star mentioned in the text: "The Seville mint identified these coins through special designs, while at the same time marking them with its own letter "S" mintmark and an eight pointed star, to identify the assayer." Perhaps the star was used by this assayer even for coinage intended for domestic use. I'll keep looking....

It looks like you have a 1474-1516 Ferdinand and Isabella (Catholic Kings) 1-reale.

The coin was minted in Seville. It should have an S and an asterisk (star) next to the shield. I have attached a picture of a similar coin.

The legend should read:
FERNANDVS • ET • ELISABET
REX • ET • REGINA • CAST • LEGION

The arrows are the symbol of Ferdinand and the yoke is the symbol of Isabella.

This coin is sometimes referred as the Columbus coin because it was used in that period (voyage).

What are the measurement and weight of the coin?
