Fern Stamped Pattern

Curious if anyone has a guess on this item I found in a civil war site in NC.

Very fragile. The metal is very thin, seems to taper on both ends and had a pattern stamped deep enough in the form of a fern creating embossed grooves.

I might guess a crude ring or cigar band or an earring.
