Few items found at a known pre-1800's site

002.webp

These items were found at an old home site that was known to have been built pre-1764. Anyone know what the decorative pc. on the right might be? perhaps part of door or chest hinge. Lots of crock pieces and every nail is square, from the smallest finish size to the larger ones.
Rock on left was found several miles away & we're wondering about it also. Looks like black lava type rock, very light wt., floats in water & sets detector off at high iron. We've busted them & they remind you of charcoal. Thks for looking!

th.webpIm sure it isnt, but decorative piece looks like Santa?

Rock is slag from a forge or boiler fire.

It could also be pumice since it floats.

And does pumice give an iron signal? I had thought of cinders but they are all same color & not rough. The texture is more like pumice.

If I remember correctly, I got clinkers out of my coal forge fire that looked just like your rock.
