Few of my best coppers and a few relics

They may not be as old as a lot of the coins I saw posted daily but I don't think I have done too bad for my first year and a half

The large cents are dated 1820 and 1843. They were readable when the first came out of the ground but I went a little overboard on cleaning them

The flying eagle I just dug the other day. Can just barely make out the 1858

1 of my 2 fatties I have dug

Semi key date 1872 ih

And an extremely detailed 1885 IH

And finally 1909 wheat. No s or vdb. But I spent so many hours looking for an 09. It was a great feeling to pull it from the dirt

Most of what you've found is in amazing condition. Best I've done is a 1920 wheat cent in terrible condition. I barely was able to determine the year. Is the soil different where you are compared to my local as I wouldn't think so?

Every site seems to have different soil around the area. It also takes a lot to clean the coins correctly

First I will try to identify the date. If it is not a key date then I will soak the coins in boiling peroxide for a few minutes. Then use a worn soft bristle toothbrush to clean the surface If it still has built up crud then I will soak them in mineral oil for a week and then pick at them with a toothpick. If they are still unreadable then I put them in a rock tumbler with some sand and other coins to get them clean

I tumble almost all of my artifacts. I like them to look a little shiny [emoji2]

Right about 15 Indian heads for the year and around 120 wheats. Only around 30 silvers for the year so far. As even the home sites I have been getting permission on lately have had people sneak on and cherry pick the silver

Awesome digs. I am still looking for an FE. That 1885 IHP has incredible detail. We are so much alike in the relics/artifacts dug and coin totals. Looks like you having a great season so far. GL & HH

Turbo21, I'd like to hear a bit more on the coin cleaning or maybe you can direct me to the instructions you use in doing the cleaning if on this site. I did think most of the area had clay soil mixed with varying degrees of decomposed plant life.
