Yesterday I took a day off work and spent it in the fields detecting with Barber Dan, started off at 21 degrees, ground a little frosty and the fingers numb. But it was a day well spent. Field one started off great I got the 5 cent trade token, a wheat and the buckle dated 1879 then it all went downhill, both my buddy and I started digging clad and buckets of trash. This site would be put on a back burner for a day when there is nowhere to go! Field two was on the 1872 map but GONE by the 1914 map, so I was hoping for some oldies, we located the homesite right away, saw glass and pottery, found the iron patch, and the first good signal was a screaming 12-47, I was hoping for a large copper but when I broke open the partially frozen clump and saw the silver rim peeking out of the dirt, my heart started to race, it was a silver quarter, I saw the rays on the back around the eagle and knew right away it was a 1853, since that was the only year rays were present. I started doing the happy dance since this was only my second seated quarter in over 6 yrs of detecting. It has some plow damage from a lot of years of plowing but I am NOT complaining!

This site also gave up 1879 and 1880 indians, CW button, misc relics as well. It was a great day, My buddy Dan had never before yesterday gotten a CW button and by the end of the day, he had TWO in his keeper pouch!

I'm still looking for my first seated but, like you, I am not complaining! Off to a great year myself.

Wow, you got some awesome finds. A seated coin would make my whole year, very nice.

Now that is a great way to spend a day off work! I love the seated quarter with with the arrows and rays design on the reverse, and hope to find one some day.

Nice variety of finds. I would be running all over the place if I found a seated quarter.

And thank you for the time and effort to take the excellent pics!

I've found a couple seateds in my travels but a quarter ain't one of 'em. How neat is that? You not only find one but the only one that has rays! Pretty awesome!
