I went back to the scout camp swingin the CZ21 in the boating area beside the swim dock. The water level is down about 5 feet so there was a lot more exposed area to detect. In had just rained so the mud on top of the clay was sloppy in spots and made the going a little rough but it was easier than doing it when the water is up. The boys managed to loose a nice variety of items.
In 6 hours I managed to find 124 coins with a face value of $10.07, 44 camp tent pegs, stainless steel bolts, sinkers, rope tensioners, 9 No Cash Value tokens, a copper cross, silver ring, a key tag, 4 square brass nuts, and a bulletin picture one.
In picture two 2 dead watches, a pair of glasses, a boat drain plug, 2 swivel snaps, and 2 aluminum carabiners.
In picture three 2 tarp pole end plugs and pieces of an aluminum whatzit. I have been finding pieces of these off and on for a long time. I have never had a clue what they were. They are made of aluminum. I have only found them at scout camp aquatics areas. The disk is the most complete one I have found and is 8” in diameter. The shaft portion is 1” in diameter and has a hole for a pin or rivet to hold it on to something. My best guess is part of a boat, but normally at camp they only use row boats and canoes and I do not recognize this as part of either one.
The copper cross looks like it might have been a scout’s metalwork merit badge project. The ring is a Nike ring marked 925 and has that deep tarnish from long exposure to fresh water. The tag is another one from Mt Lebanon, a suburb of Pittsburgh served by this camp. This one is from 1996, the last one was from 1990.
So another good hunt with some silver, always a good thing, gas money, social distancing exercise in the fresh air and more curiosities to try and identify and get information about (which can be as much fun as finding the stuff). Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.
