Greetings from the Great Frozen North:
Didn't get out as much as I would have liked to last season, mostly a couple of hour hunts close to home. I did find some interesting stuff and finally got a chance to clean them up and take pics.
Here is the best copper I found this season:
And the back:
These large cents didn't come out as well. Found in a creek bed together at the water line. I guess they got hammered when the water came up.
And the backs:
Some other older Canadian cents:
Back of them:
I find a few wheats up here once in a while too. Here are the oldest ones, followed by the rest of them.
Later ones and a nickel from the 50's.
I find mostly copper from this and later eras. These are George VI pennies. I found many sets of these except for (you guessed it) the two oldest ones - 1937 and 1938.
These are pennies with the young Queen on them. The 53's and 55's are valuable depending on whether or not the Queen has a shoulder fold. Dug ones are too worn to tell. I have a few complete sets of these. This is the first year I kept any wheats, Georges or young Queen pennies. I put them in the rock tumbler and back in circulation in previous years. Here she is:
My biggest find this year was not even metal. I found a wallet while detecting around an arena complex. It had $65.00 US in it and all the ID from the person who lost it. Called him up and he told me it had been stolen from his truck during a hockey game. Thieves took all the Canadian money but he had tucked away the US cash in one of the compartments so they missed it. He later sent me $20.00 in the mail.
Hope you enjoyed this post. I am here most days and really enjoy all the stuff people find.
