Finally have time to post -Scout Camp & Cellar Hole finds !!!
Last Saturday was a good day of hunting....Found some new spots and hunted a couple of old ones...Found a few wheats and iron relics at the first one , so decided to move to another area. Once we arrived at the next one Jim M and I started along a ridge to the right of the cellar hole ..at ones Jim found a nice compact and this one was different it had a Blue glass or enamel inlay on the top part and was shining like stained blue glass in the sun....It is a very nice and different piece...not like the compacts I have found in the past....and no there were no coins or gold pieces in it!!!! Bummer...so we continued on and found a couple more items...moving to another are down the road ,I have hunted this site on a corner a few years ago and this is where I found my first Barber Dime...it was nice and in the same hole with a mercury dime ....so now as we started out came a flat button , nothing to jump up and down about ...but it is a good sign that the site still is giving up stuff...so as I made my way to the front of the cellar and along the ditch that is in front along the road I get a deep good hit about 4 feet in front of a huge Maple tree...Knowing when I start digging Roots are gonna be the problem and yes there is was a root to chop through....Usually I sharpen my shovel blade each time I go out so that helps with cutting through them , with the root now cut out and down about 8 to 10 inches I'm still getting Good hit . With Jim standing right there finally out pops on the next shovel full on dirt a 1846 Coronet Large Cent...and it was deep..Now it makes me wonder what else is at this site that gave up now Mercurys and barber Dimes and now Large cents this site will have to be done in the near future......So now it was time to head home and talk about tomorrows plans....
That was Saturdays finds and now before this gets to long , these finds are from the old scout camp I went to on Sunday with Tim H here in NY.
All the areas in this camp are great hunt because of the history of the scout camp being here...we decided to go to the same area that I hunted in the past and posted about a month ago..so after a couple of hours these are the finds that I picked up.. the pin is a first for me ,A scout one year pin ...the 1927 Mercury dime is nice ...and a couple of Indian head nickles and wheats are always found here and there .... what was an interesting find was the bullet that I found in a shallow root as I was digging that lead signal....hey you never know!!!! Well its time plan for next weekend so I hope you enjoy and Good luck Digging in the future!!!!!
