Ok so I went to NYC the weekend of March 30th to see Black Sabbath at Radio City Music Hall.
Woohoo!!!
;D

I told my teller not to order me a box that week.

I did not bother to stop in to my branch until yesterday, and my teller had gone ahead and ordered one as usual the following week and I did not know it.

So I come in there yesterday, and they told me I had one box already, and another one arriving today, and that some guy came in on Tuesday and turned in $1500 in Ikes, and $360 in hand-rolled halves.

Hmm.....I was not expecting anything and suddenly I am snowed under.

So I told them I would pick up one box today, and I did. I will pick up the $360 in hand-rolled halves tomorrow, and the other box on Saturday or Monday.

I do not want to fool with Ikes....not enough chance of it being worth my while.

So...out of the box I got today...here is the story.

I got out to my vehicle and opened up the box...right away I saw 4 40% halves peering up at me from the ends of some rolls. I checked the bottom end of the rolls in the top top layer, and found another 40% half looking at me. One of the original four I saw had another 40% half at the opposite end of the roll.
*sigh*

No...it was not a solid roll...but I did get 5 40% halves out of it. ;D

I think out of the entire box, there were less than 10 rolls with no silver.

The final score?

All JFKs....

(2) 1964
(4) 1965
(7) 1966
(21) 1967
(25) 1968
(9) 1969

What a relief! After finding almost nothing in my last 3-4 boxes, I got a decent box for a change!

Then, I sat and watched a remastered James Bomb movie from my box set while looking at dates.

I found a 1972-S proof....not in great shape, but not bad either....a half that someone had painted blue on the front, and wonder of wonders, a 20-Centavo half.

Question....are these things just for some kind of "novelty" value? I see no useful purpose in hollowing out a half just to stick some other coin in it....

So anyway....here are some pics. First one is overall take....(66 40%, 2 90%, 1 proof, one insert, and a blue half).
Second is obverse of the 20-centavo half, third pic is the reverse.

I will post another recap after I search through the hand-rolled halves over the weekend, and the other box on Monday.
;D
Happy hunting everybody!

That was a great box MF. WTG. You know I came across a coin like the one you have painted blue a while back.

Good luck on the hand rolled. Keep us posted.

Heh...in my box today I came across ANOTHER JFK that was 'Blue in the face' lol.

Ok, I was lost about the hollowing out of a half.. but some searching and I found this article:

http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article_view.chtml?artid=799&universeid=313&type=1

brief answer: I guess it is to make double sided coins for magic tricks... any one else got any ideas? Does this seem to fit, or am I still lost? :-\

Thanks...
