If its lead you should be able to shave it with a knife, or at the very least be able to bend it a lot easier than you can with a regular quarter. If it is lead that would be a rare and unique find for sure

Way to go former fellow cheesehead! ;) Let us know what happens! But why would someone counterfeit quarters????

It's unique alright. I can write with it and scrape the metal with my fingernail and it bends very easily. It's dark in color but where you scrape it with your nail, it becomes shiny. It is lead for sure, solid lead. I'm just glad we're dealing with a quarter and not a hundred-dollar bill. I'm sure they will take this from me. It may only be a quarter but it's still a federal crime.
Gypsy, once a Cheesehead, always a Cheesehead!!!

I wonder how many of those are ending up in vending machines or Coinstars. Many of the fishers in my area will go to tire shops and ask for the leftover leads that are used for tire balancing. They will take these and melt them into fishing weights or apply them to hooks to make jigs. Looks like someone thought of a more profitable use...

who the hell counterfiets quarters!! :P seems like you would have to make a whole lot of em for it to be profitable. really interesting find though.

That 25 cent piece has seen better days!!!!! ;D

Sheriff left a short time ago. Attached is the verdict. He said it was up to me if I wanted to pursue calling the FBI but he said, personally, he would keep it as a novelty. He thought it was pretty neat. Maybe I could go to a bar and bet someone $10 I could bend it in half with my bare hands. Then, if they found me out, they could bend me in half with theirs. :D

Now thats funny!!!! And you got the proof in the photo....I am crying....maybe they were vegas quarters......slot conterfiets :) :)
you should bet someone you can tear it apart with your teeth...hahahah .....chew it and eat it ....be a man! hahahah.....oooh maybe not...... lead poisoning !

I do go fishing quite often. Maybe I can melt it down and make a sinker out of it. I think if I were to risk federal prison I'd work on at least a dollar bill. Sure am curious as to how many this fool made and got into circulation.

OK, i never made coins but in my young days i and my friends would shave down copper penny,s and would use them as dimes to buy pop,s and candy bars from the vending machines. we did this a lot intill we got caught. :). I'm glad i did :)

sorry i guess that was making coins of a sort

The story has an ending. Just for the heck of it, I contacted the FBI to see if they would do anything with it. Wrong agency. They directed me to the Secret Service. I called them and the lady said I could either mail it to them or drop it by their office. I just said "Okay, bye". Didn't even ask me what part of the country I was in. Considering their lack of interest I'm working on my first coin die set. You folks can all send me your useless lead for proper disposal. I'm gonna keep my first lead quarter on the wall like businesses do with their first dollar.
Gypsy, did the wind quit blowing there? Your avatar isn't moving

Hahahahaa...You are the second one that told me that today...I will change it back.....uploaded My Glinda Good Witch of the North yesterday and when I changed it back.,...put wrong one in.......Omni made my avatar move....He is really good ,hey?

I will be sending lead for you.....have all those lead sinkers I keep finding! :)
