Finally searched 151 74D's

Came up with 7 Double dies. Is this about right? 1/20?

Ditto, zilch here as well. Be careful of machine doubling, as its worthless. If the second image has a flat, shelflike appearance, its machine doubling. I don't think the double dies are all that common, or they wouldn't produce such a premium. Back in 2003, my Red Book lists them for 150 bucks in mint state! I only have a 10x loupe - went ahead and ordered a 20x.

The 74D here is almost exactly what mine looked like. Same spots of doubling, and non-existent elsewhere.

Nice find! I can't seem to get that lucky, lol... Guess I just gotta keep on a lookin'.

Radio shack has a good little pocket microscope for checking out the details on any coin- Its 60 to 100x magnification, and backlit. Runs on 2 AAA batteries. Cat. # 63-1133, in case you're interested.

Those numbers are much better than what I have found. With me it is usually 1 in 100 or so. I have gone before looking at over 1000 and not finding any. Mine also I know are not the machine doubline, as the surface on the RUS is round, not flat.

Maybe the 7 i have arent all, if any, double dies. When i get the 20x loupe i can get a better look - it's a strain with the 10x to know for sure (at least for me).
