After 15 hunts and digging nothing but junk bar 2 clad dimes and 2 memorial penny's I was about to sell everything and settle on this isn't for me till hunt number 16 at a 200 year-old home. I always start with high hopes and end up getting crushed but I finally found somethings here that kept me going and if anyone is putting a roof on just let me know as I have a coffee can of roofing nails that I dug to donate

We had a vending machine that gave those dollar coins as change. I don't know how many I saved, ( but it was a bunch ). I like them for decoration. Congratulations on the other coins.

When I dug it and first seen the golden color I was like HOLY $&!T then I cleaned it off and was like well it is a dollar

Welcome Boilerman. It took me 100 hunts to find my first Wheat penny. Don't give up right out of the gate. Stick around here and watch what other folks are finding. Most importantly is Where they are finding the old keepers. Research will get you the stuff you are after. Nice batch of coins you got here and some silver for your treasure chest.

Could not even begin to tell you how much trash I've dug up over the years, but there HAS been a lot of great items as well. You will most likely have uneventful days detecting, but there ARE days that you could not slap the smile off my face because of something I've found. It is those days that keep us going, about 30 yrs for me.

I liken metal detecting to fishing, go to your favorite hole and hope the big hawwwg hits, but it doesn’t always happen, sometimes you get skunked.

Great job! About 90% of people that try this hobby are done within a year. I have always loved local history and had a laundry list of spots that I had researched before I started detecting. It’s all location my friend. If it’s not in the ground there’s a 100% chance you won’t find it. I can tell you from experience there’s nothing more gratifying than finding a spot nobody has ever detected before. I’ve found several spots just on a hunch. The land looked right for colonial settlement. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. When it does it’s like magic. All of the research and hard work and physical effort pays off. I wish you the best and congrats for hanging in there. Now you have a little taste

Looks like you found some nice coins. Never give up ! I have been doing this for 30 years, and have dug enough trash to start my own landfill. But then again because I dig so much trash, the excellent finds rarely get away from me. Its just part of the game, and if you get use to it, you will start making more good finds.

Congratulations on the awesome finds! Keep your head up and keep swinging!

Everyone else that responded is right. I got skunked this weekend besides a couple Wheaties. I salvaged my 2 hunts with some old bottles and a half rack of deer antlers. I try not to go home empty handed but sometimes that happens. Keep at it.

Nice finds. Don’t give up BoilerMan. I know that most of the times we go out we don’t find anything but there’s always the hope of finding some silver or gold. That’s what keeps me going. The last three times I’ve gone all I’ve found is trash. But I’ll be out again today looking for those special coins!! Keep the faith my friend!!

Nice finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Yea, up in St. Louie you ride the train with them. But you know Simon1, I could stand to find 10 or 12 a day.

Hello Boilerman. Gad to see that you FINALLY found some goodies. Those are nice finds, Big silver and Wheaties with a Sac $ is a great hunt.

It's all about keeping up the effort and digging smart. Some locations like parks and common areas are no-brainers but looking deeper by doing some research and knocking on doors will open new and better opportunities. Asking folks to hunt their properties was probably the hardest thing for me to get used to but I find many un-dug spots that way now.

I have found many great items by using the 3 "P's"...Perseverance, Patience, and Polite Persistence...OK maybe 4 "P's"...and by realizing that if i haven't found anything on a potentially good site I probably have just not dug enough holes yet.

Congrats...it just takes one good hunt or find to hook 'ya in this hobby...Thanks for the post and Good Luck out there. C9

Congrats on pulling those keepers. :occasion14: Don't I wish every plug held a dollar coin.. I could quit work and pay my bills with dug money.

Nice finds on the coins Boilerman. Keep at it and keep the faith. There are more coins lying in the ground waiting to be brought up. Continued Success to you.

If you can dig a silver quarter and some Wheats, you have had a good day. Congrats. On a side note, the new ATPro I bought a few years ago came from someone that gave up too soon. I got it for a song! Keep on pluggin, it will just get better.

Continued success just don’t give up
